Waves are made by the friction caused between the wind and the water. When wind blows over the surface of the sea, the continous disturbance which pushes the water forward and backwards caused by the wind generates waves in the sea.
Waves are also caused by the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon to the earth. Which are also called as tides.
