Answer:

Processing Sheared wool into wool fibres:-

Wool that we used for weaving shawls and for knitting sweaters is the end product of a long process which involves following steps :

Step 1:-

  • The hair of the sheep are removed from its body and this process is known as shearing. The wool that we obtain is called sheared wool.
  • The cutting of hair is done during the hot weather because that time  the sheep can survive without their protective coat of hair.
  • The hair provide woolen fibres which are processed to get woolen yarn.

Step 2:-

  • The sheared wool is thoroughly washed in tanks to eliminate the dust, grease and dirt. This process is known as scouring which is done by machines nowadays.

Step 3:-

  • The hair send to a factory where hair of different textures, length are  sorted or separated.

Step 4:-

  • The small fluffy fibres are separated out from the hair. The fibres are cleaned again then dried. Now, the wool is ready to be converted into fibres.

Step 5:-

  • As the color of natural fleece of sheep and goats is white, black or brown. The wool fibres can be dyed in many colors,.

Step 6:-

  • The wool fibres are arranged, straightened and rolled into yarn.  The longer fibres are used for sweaters and the shorter fibres are woven and knitted into woolen cloth.
