In cities across India, work revolves around corporate organisations and government offices. In the villages, on the other hand, work is mostly connected with agriculture and animal farming. But, the cities and villages are inter-dependent because a lot of work in both is focused towards supporting the other. The villagers provide us with vegetables, rice, wheat, fruits, milk etc that we consume in cities for our sustenance. Similarly, the cities and smaller urban areas provide garments, ready-made foodstuff, medicines etc to the villagers for their consumption and well-being.
I and my family depend on our domestic helps, driver, milkman, dhobi, tailor, barber, postman etc for the services they render to us. I am dependent on my school and the teachers for pursuing my education. We are dependent on our family physician for the treatment he provides when we are ill.
Making a living means carrying out an activity for pecuniary benefit. A dhobi washes and irons clothes for others. He thus makes a living as he earns money from the service he renders to others. He and his family are able to utilise the money, thus earned, for their sustenance, children's education, savings etc.
Traders are an important part of any society. They procure goods that are required by people at large and supply to those that are in need of them. Without them, our requirement of goods would not be met. Take for example, our neighbourhood shopkeeper; he procures supplies of various items from several wholesalers and sells them over his counter to people like us, as per our needs. My family and I buy our requirements of rice, pulses, toiletries etc as and when needed.
