• Calamine ore is crushed by pulverising them for increasing the efficiency of the next reactions.

• Then Calamine undergoes calcination process;

Calcination = oxidising ore in the absence or presence or very limited air

Eq: ZnCO3 ---∆---> ZnO + CO2

• Then the ZnO is reduced by using Carbon in order to remove oxygen atoms.

Eq : ZnO + C --------> Zn + CO

• Thus pure Zinc metal is left behind and thus extracted from calamine.
