After Sri Lanka got Independence:

>Sinhala leaders sought to acquire dominance over the government being the majority.

>The government followed policies that favoured sinhala applicants for jobs and universities.

>Various laws were enacted to foster Buddhism and to make Sinhala the official language disregarding Tamil!

All these increased the feeling of alienation among the srilankan Tamil who constituted the minority. They felt that they were not being treated equally...

In this type of rule they disregard the wishes and needs of the minority. The majoritarian concept has increased the strong feelings of alienation among Sri Lankan Tamils because of the series of majoritarian measures adopted by the democratically elected government in Sri Lanka.
