So let us assume that we have to fill three vacant spaces _ _ _ with 9 nos.

Now no. Of ways of filling the first vacant space is 9. Now one number among these nine numbers will be used.

And since repetition of numbers is not allowed, the number of ways of filling the next vacant space becomes 8. Similarly, the number of ways of filling the last vacant space becomes 7.

And now use the principle of multiplication to see how many three digit numbers can be formed. i.e.9x 8x 7=504.

Hence 504 three digit numbers can be formed.
