Given:

Many 440 ohm resistances had placed in parallel combination in a 220 volt line.

To find:

Number of resistors required to carry a current of 5 ampere .

Calculation:

Let n of resistors be required.

Hence , equivalent resistance of the circuit will be :

 \therefore \:  \dfrac{1}{R_{eq}}  =  \dfrac{1}{440}  +  \dfrac{1}{440}  + ...... +  \: n \: times

 =  >  \:  \dfrac{1}{R_{eq}}  =  \dfrac{n}{440}

 =  >  \: R_{eq} =  \dfrac{440}{n}

Now , required current through the circuit is 5 Amperes.

 \therefore \: 5 =  \dfrac{220}{R_{eq}}

  =  > \: 5 =  \dfrac{220}{( \frac{440}{n} )}

 =  >  \: 5 =  \dfrac{n}{2}

 =  >  \: n = 10 \: \:  resistors

So , final answer is :

10 resistors are required.
