Answer:

Kho-Kho is the traditional Indian sports being one of oldest outdoor sports dating back to ancient India. It is second most popular traditional tag game in Indian subcontinent after Kabaddi. Kho-Kho is played by two teams, with the twelve nominated players out of fifteen, of which nine enter field who sit on their knees (Chasing Team), and three extra (Defending Team) who try to avoid being touched by members of other opposing team.

The sport is widely played across South Asia, and also has the strong presence in regions outside South Asia, such as South Africa and England. It is played most often by school children in India and Pakistan and is the competitive game.

The origin of Kho-Kho is very difficult to trace, but many historians believe that it is the modified form of 'Tag'/'Catch', which in its simplest form involves chasing and the touching a person. Originating in Tamil Nadu, Kho-Kho in the ancient times was played on 'raths' or chariots and was known as the Rathera. Kho-Kho is featured in Ancient Indian Sanskrit epic Mahabharata.

The present appearance of game was an adoption from time of World War I in 1914. But at the same time, there were neither any dimensions of the playground nor poles which demarcate the central line. The time factor was also missing.
