Answer is

Exothermic and endothermic reactions

Explanation

On the Basis of heat the chemical reactions are of two types. i. e ,

  • Exothermic reaction
  • Endothermic reaction.

Exothermic reaction

  • Exothermic = heat is producing. "Exo" is putted from greek language which means 'out' and "thermic" means heat. So , Exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction in which production of heat takes place in the form of heat or can be light.
  • The general chemical reaction for exothermic reaction is given below ,
  • Reactants ————›» Product + Energy ( Heat ).
  • The amount of energy or heat released is given by ∆H.
  • Example of exothermic reaction is nuclear fission.

Endothermic reaction

  • Endo = absorbing , Thermic = Heat .
  • So the Endothermic reaction is opposite of exothermic reaction i. e. Endothermic reaction = Heat absorbing reaction.
  • So , Endothermic reaction is defined as the chemical reaction which requires energy in the form of heat to give products.
  • General reaction → Reactants + Energy ( Heat ) —————›» Products.
  • Example of endothermic reaction is Evaporation , Melting of ice.
