Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most celebrated festivals in India. The festival is celebrated according to the Hindu calendar on the 4th day of the Bhadrapada month, which falls in late August or early September. It is celebrated for 11 days.

The first process of Ganesh Chaturthi  is bringing home idol of lord Ganesh. With loud chants and traditional drum beats, the deity is brought to the place where he stays for next 11 days. Modak – his favorite, sweets, flowers, rice, etc. are offered to him every day.

The families celebrating the festival invite their neighbors and give them presents and sweets. This takes place all the 11 days. On the last day of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, all the families gather, pray and chant religious songs. Then the idol is carried to be immersed in water. This ritual is known as Ganesh Visarjan. Hindus believe that everything in the universe will change but energy will remain constant, the immersion of the idol in water reminds us this concept.
