Assam, a northeastern state of India, is divided into 33 administrative geographical units called districts. Assam has 33 districts. Before 2015 it had 27 districts in total. On 15 August 2015m CM Tarun Gogoi formed 5 districts more. So it was then total 32 districts. On January 26, 2016, 2 more districts were formed, but due to administrative infrastucture problem these districts are still non-functional. After his tenure new CM Sarbananda Sonowal, ,formed a new one. So now Assam has total of 33 districts.
