Answer:-

  E = 9 \times 10^{13} j

Given :-

Mass = 1 gram

To find :-

The energy released during mass defect.

Solution :-

Mass - Energy Relation :- Mass and energy are two relative terms . I. e, mass and energy can be neither created nor destroyed but they can be change from one form to another.

The mass defect during radioactivity and nuclear reactions are less but the energy released in tremendous amount.

Now, According to Einstein equation of mass - energy relation.

Both mass and energy are related by :-

\boxed{\sf{ E = MC^2}}

Where C is the speed of light in vacuum.

 C = 3 × 10^8 m/s

Now, put the value in equation

 E = \dfrac{1}{1000} \times (3 \times 10^8 )^2

 E = \dfrac{1}{1000}\times 9 \times 10^{16}

 E = 9 \times 10^{16 -3}

E = 9 \times 10^{13} j

hence, energy released during mass defect is 9 \times 10^{13} j
