One Astronomical Unit is equal to 150 million kilometres.  It is approximately the same distance between the planet earth and sun.  Astronomical Unit is used to measure the distance between different heavenly bodies which are present in our solar system.  It is used in calculations parsec which is also used to measure astronomical length.
