The total members of the constitution assembly was 389 of which 292 were representatives of the states ,93 represented the principle states and four were from the chief commissioners provinces of Delhi ,Ajmer-Merwara ,Coorg and British Baluchistan.

SEATS : 389 (December 1946- June 1947); 299(June 1947-Jan .1950).

The constitution was drafted by the constitution Assembly ,which was elected by elected members of the provincial assemblies .The 389 member assembly (reduced to 299 after the partition of India) took almost three years to draft the constitution holding eleven sessions over a 165- day period .
