because things started from rest so initial velocity is 0.& gravity will be 9.8m/s^2, because things is freely falling from a certain height by gravity in this case gravity is 9.8m/s^2

& time is 1 second

u=0

a=g=9.8m/s^2

so, now we have to find distance

so the formula to find distance is

s=ut+ 1/2at^2

distance is denoted to s

s=0×1+1/2×9.8×1×1

s=4.9m.
