how many names of India are there?

Generally speaking, the region that now comprises Pakistan and Northern India has often been referred to by names denoting the Indus River (which is in modern-day Pakistan, oddly enough).

My etymology may not be fully correct on this one, but I’m fairly certain the name “India” derives from the Sanskrit word that refers to the Indus River Valley, “Sindhu.”

In Arabic, India is referred to as “al-hind”

In Farsi, India is referred to as “Hind”

Hindi and Urdu speakers prior to independence often referred to India as Hindustan (which in Farsi translates to: Land of the Indus). Given this, I’m sure you can figure out where “Hindustani” and “Hindi” come from
