Warning : read only if you have an open and rational mind. Read only if you really want the answer and not just random supports.

First of all I wish to state that I don't support caste. But then I can't deny it's existence in India. We aren't properly educated. I include myself too, I had the belief that reservation is promoting caste. If we end communal representation we might end CASTISM! How ignorant of me! . I was against reservation till I understood the concept behind it. I Ll list out the points and I wish people observe them rationally being civilised an not emotionally.

Based on the common questions and constructive criticism on ma answer I have added few context. Please read it fully, if you have any questions other than the ones that I have already answered, you are welcomed to ask :)

RESERVATION : communal representation in accordance to their population percentage.

GOAL : to upbringing DEVELOPMENT on all community, so that EQUALITY is achieved eventually. I.e, the development of a community which is measured in terms of marks/ cut-off to the state that, every community ends up with EQUAL cut-off.

INFERENCE : As we could see, we are far away from achieving EQUALITY. And when it's achevied reservation would end by itself due to its own design.

Reservation is based upon CASTE and CASTE is not based upon reservation. So, reservation ends when caste does.

The very meaning behind reservation is, representation based on a communal population. I.e, in a pack of hundred people, who have been classified into A,B,C,D. And A has 10 members, B has 50 members, C has 20 members and D has 20 members. You have food only for 30 members. Equality is not in giving food to the first 30 because they can eat better! . Let's say group D, and A gets all 30. Group B and C will die without any opportunity. That's not equality!! But splitting the available 30 into percentages according to the persons in each group and allowing them to compete within that group is equality. That is reservation.

One more example each state in India has different number of constituency, why not make it equal for all the state? Because it would be unfair to compare a state having population in crores with a state having population in lakhs. But can we avoid a state because it has less population? No. They also deserve a representation. . Reservation. That is equality.

One thing we are mis fed is, we assume group D has influnece on group A. No! Not at all! In fact the very purpose of communal representation is that there should not be any relation between any of the groups and each have their own share according to the amount of available people in each group.there is no relation between group A, B, C and D. Which means persons under group A compete only with persons in group A. Which is fair!a person in group D is no way responsible to person in group A. They are secluded separately.

So the problem lies with SECLUSION of groups in the form of CASTE. That is the primal problem to be addressed!

Why is caste kept as a criteria for reservation? The same reason why caste is kept as a criteria for choosing ones life partner in India. That show the existence of caste system very predominantly in India. Just because a few among us live in a civilised part of India where we don't face castesim doesn't imply there is no castism in India.

On the mark front though completely illogical, a person from one category out of ignorance will claim that a person from other category has been given opportunity with a less score!. What more proof one needs that the lower category is still not developed to the scoring levels of a developed category!

Isn't reservation unfair for unreserved groups?

This question doesn't have any basis. If the protected group was given more seats than their relative population, then that could be unfair. But that's not the case. If protected group status was given to some random group with no basis for such status, then that would be unfair.

Let's do a little thought experiment.

There are 100 seats for a particular university. A candidate 'X' is not eligible
