Big but correct. ...
Firstly, an educated Indian youth is usually exposed to the various degrees of corruption practiced by politicians. Not a day goes by, without a newspaper expose on a major politician and some scandal related to him. Most Indian politicians are seen as uneducated thugs, who use the muscle power of the party members and dirty politics to gain the upper hand. I am from a metro city, and I can say, I am quite disillusioned with the work culture of the politicians. There are always promises on how they are going to establish such and such norm, and how the Government is working to contain such and such emissions. In the end, months fly by, deadlines after deadlines are broken, and nothing is done.
How do the politicians come to power in the first place?? The largest segment of the Indian populace is rural. It is very easy for a party to win a rural village's support. A typical Indian villager is well below the poverty level, and is uneducated. It is natural for him to get influenced heavily by any attractive short term benefit the party has to offer. He has enough sense to know, that in the long run, there is not much hope for him. But the bidding contest of the parties contesting the support of the village will be of immediate benefit. Any voice of reason which remains in such village is swiftly suppressed. That is why incompetent ministers exist. The support of the uneducated, and easily manipulated masses of the various districts.Establish thugs to suppress the naysayers. So an educated Indian youth can very well think, what is the point of voting. How will it change a thing, whether he votes for that man or not? There is a sense of hopelessness and anger with regards to the corruption in the Indian political system.
I have just given reasons on why an educated Indian youth behaves the way he behaves. It is quite easy to see now the disillusionment he feels, and the sense of hopelessness, the feeling that nothing that they do can matter. So they make criticism their only outlet.
However, this mentality is quite wrong. What happens then is exactly what the politicians want. The people who matter, who can actually make them work to get their positions, and can censure every single laxity they display, are dropping off, consumed in apathy. Sure, chances of a single person changing the outcome of say an election is slim, but this is not just one person, but rather, tens of thousands of people who are become indifferent to polling, and this must change. Sure India has a very corrupt Government, and which is precisely why, now more than ever, the people, and the educated youth of India must guide and censure it!!
