There are 8 squares and 7 rectangles in the given figure.
- We can solve this question easily if we divide the figure into bigger and smaller parts.
- First we will take a look at the squares. We must look at smaller squares first and then the bigger squares made by it.
- We can see there are 4 small squares in the middle of the figure which also makes 1 big square. Also, there are 3 squares drawn in diagonally in the figure.
- This gives us 4+1+3 = 8 squares.
- Now, for the rectangles, we look at the largest rectangle first which is 1 long diagonal rectangle made up of three squares. Now, this rectangle has 1 rectangle made up of two squares from below and 1 rectangle made up of two squares from above.
- If we look at the center square closely we can see it can be divided into 2 horizontal rectangles made of two small squares and 2 vertical rectangles also made of two small squares.
- This gives us 1+1+1+2+2 = 7 rectangles.
Hence, we can conclude that there are 8 squares and 7 rectangles present in the given figure.
