how many refractions does a beam of white light suffer when it is passed through a prism?

I think you presumably know that white light is made up of seven colours :

Violet , Indigo , Blue, Green ,Yellow , Orange and Red.

The number of refractions will obviously be one . It is because there are only two phases of refractions :

(i) when the white beam just strikes the prism (air to prism).

(ii) when the white beam leaves the prism (prism to air).

But after one refraction , the white beam disperses into seven colours . So , it will suffer only one refraction and then it will split !

However note that if the ray strikes at an angle of incidence which is more than the critical angle , then there will be no refraction at all .

Hope it helps !

Answer:

hey mate.......

Explanation:

When white light passes through first prism it disperses the light into seven colours and when this beam of light enters the second prism which is placed in an inverted position, a white light is obtained when it comes out of the second prism.

i hope it will help u..

and it is much shorter then the above answer...
