First possible answer:

\huge\boxed{x = 4 \:and \:y = 2}

x + y = 6

= 4 + 2 = 6

Second :

\huge\boxed{x = 5\: and\: y = 1   }

x + y = 6

= 5 + 1 = 6

3 + 3 isn't possible here . That equation will become x + x instead of x + y .

So we should take two different digits to find answer to this question .
