10 essential spermatocytes go on to produce 40 sperm.

Primary and secondary spermatocytes are NOT the same. Every primary spermatocyte produces two secondary spermatocytes through meiosis I, which thusly deliver two spermatids through meiosis II. These spermatids develop after some time into sperm.

10 essential oocytes, at last, create only 10 ova. The other 20 to 30 cells produced in the meiotic divisions are polar bodies that separate and get reabsorbed by the body.

10 primary spermatocytes produce 40 sperms, 10 primary oocytes produces only 10 eggs.

In the process of gametogenesis, (spermatogenesis and oogenesis).

Spermatogenesis produces sperm cells whereas oogenesis produces egg cells.

1 primary spermatocyte produces 2 secondary spermatocytes through meiosis, this again splits into 2 sperm cells through 2 meiosis. Hence 1 primary spermatocyte produces 4 sperm cells.

Similar, one primary oocyte produces 4 cells through meiosis which forms a single egg cell.
