Critical thinking is the ability to organize information to obtain a reasonable judgment.

Linda Paul and Richard Elder in “Critical Thinking Development:  A Stage Theory” states six stages of development.

1. The Unreflective Thinker: These are people who do not realize or use thinking as a cognitive ability.

2. The Challenged Thinker: These are people who are aware of the thinking process but do not possess the capability of applying it properly to solve problems.

3. The Beginning Thinker: These are people who apply thinking to solve problems in their lives but they still need improvements.

4. The Practicing Thinker: They apply thinking effectively but they are aware that their decisions tend to be egocentric.

5. The Advanced Thinker: They have good control over their thinking and apply it across many areas. But they do not have full control over their egocentric thoughts.

6. The Accomplished Thinker: They have s structured thinking that helps in solving problems easily. They have good control of their egocentric thoughts.
