There are 28 states and 8 Union territories in the country.

2. The Constitution distinguishes three organs of the State – the legislative, executive and judiciary with specific powers and responsibilities assigned on each of these organs.

3.The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The term of the Legislative Assembly may be extended during an emergency, but not more than six months at a time.
