Given:
The sides of a triangle get doubled.
To find:
The change in the area of the triangle.
Solution:
1) Let the sides of the triangle are a, b, and c
2) If the sides get double it will become 2a, 2b, and 2c.
3) The area of the original triangle by the heron's formula:
- s = a+b+c/2
- Area = √s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)
4) The area of the triangle when sides get double,
s will also become 2s
- Area' = √2s(2s-2a)(2s-2b)(2s-2c)
- = √2s×2(s-a)×2(s-b)×2(s-c)
- = 4√s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)
Area' = 4. Area
When the sides are doubled then the area of triangle becomes 4 times.
