- This is the eighth time the state has been put under the Governor's rule
After BJP broke its alliance with PDP and chief minister Mehbooba Mufti resigned, President Ram Nath Kovind has imposed the Governor's Rule in the state. This is the eighth time the state has been put under the Governor's Rule.
Though, in normal cases, under such a situation, the President's Rule is imposed in the state under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, the separate constitution of J&K gives it an additional layer.
The Article 92 of the state's constitution imposes the Governor's Rule in the state in case a government is collapsed which is for six months. The state assembly remains in suspended animation and MLAs remain in office for the period if the Governor has not dissolved the assembly.
After six months, the state comes under the President's Rule under Article 356.
