Endoplasmic reticulum is a complex network of tubular membranes exclusively present in the cytoplasm of the eukaryotic cells.
The endoplasmic reticulum is classified into two types :
- Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is not bounded by the ribosomes and is known for storing the lipids and proteins .
- Rough endoplasmic reticulum
Rough endoplasmic reticulum is bounded by the ribosomes and it stores proteins .
