Having not reached the technological level as a species to properly answer this question, any assessments made will be based on both our current standard of understanding and our personal (if hopefully educated) opinions.
That being said, although there is no concrete scientific basis for the oft proposed "multiverse" theory, I personally find myself leaning towards it. Though it may be conjecture at this point, many a physicist ranging from highly educated to amateur has recognized the merit in this hypothesis.
The theory of infinite parallel universes existing in concert and occasionally overlapping in subtle ways has been used to explain everything from doppelgangers to deja vous, and though that may not strengthen the basis for this premise, there are a few more scientifically quantifiable concepts that do. For example, the fact that mainstream science believes there to be 10 proven and several more postulated dimensions, even though we as humans can only reasonably perceive three.
