it depends on the species of parrot. But, since I happen to have four African Greys, I have to say there is no “average” parrot. Flap talks up a storm, and even though he is at least 30 years old, he is still learning new words and phrases and musical passages. It took him less than two weeks to learn the first two phrases from the “Queen of the Night Aria” from The Magic Flute. Elsie knows a few things, but I’ve never pushed her (or the others for that matter) to learn talking, and she hasn’t gone much past those few phrases. Isaac doesn’t “talk” at all, but he is constantly learning new sound effects (and I wish he would unlearn the smoke alarm RIGHT THIS MINUTE). And Samson knows a couple of whistles
