The amount of energy decreases as we move from one trophic level to the another level.

Only 10% of the total energy gets transferred to the next level and keeps on decreasing.

The rest of the energy losts through metabolic processes as heat.

This sequence is called Ten percent law given by Ramond Lindeman in the year 1942.
According to this , only 10% of energy can be available from 1st trophic level to next trophic level.
