There is no medium in space through which heat can travel from the sun to the earth.

The sun rays can only heat the earth through radiation.

Sun being 150 million kilometers away from the earth and having 50000 surface temperatures, radiates the earth’s atmosphere to a certain extent as some heat is reflected off the surface and some is absorbed.

It is around 168 Wm-2.

About 168 W/m2

Sun is at a distance of 150 million kilometers away from the earth and having 50000 surface temperatures, radiates the earth’s atmosphere to a certain extent as some heat is reflected off the surface and some is absorbed. Since there is no medium between the sun and earth, so heat travels only on the form of radiation.
