how much length of Mercury will stand atmospheric pressure at sea level if the torricellian tube is tilted by 30° with the vertical

solution : at atmospheric pressure,

barometric height, h = 76 cm.

it is given that, tube is tilted by 30° with the vertical.

let l is length of mercury column in the barometer tube.

so, cos30° = h/l

⇒√3/2 = 76cm/l

⇒l = 76/(√3/2) = 87.76 cm

Therefore the length of mercury will stand atmosphere pressure at seal level is 87.76 cm if he torricellian tube is tilted by 30° with vertical.
