How much water should be mixed with 12 ml of alcohol so as to obtain 12% of alcohol solution

% by volume = (volume of alcohol / volume of solution) x 100% 

Arrange the formula to get volume of solution: 

volume of solution = volume of alcohol / (% by volume /100%) 
volume of solution = 12 mL / (12% /100%) 
volume of solution = 100 mL 

volume of water added = volume of solution - volume of alcohol 
volume of water added = 100 mL - 12 mL 
volume of water added = 88 mL
