The National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP) was founded in 1919 by a man named Anton Drexler under the original name of the “German Workers’ Party”. After WW1 Germany was forced to reduce its military to 100,000 men and so a particular Adolf Hitler was sent in as a Reichswehr spy (replacement rank for some soldiers) to infiltrate communist parties. The government thought the DAP was communist and so Hitler went in. However, he discovered it was far-right and joined. He soon became the party’s leader, renamed it to the NSDAP, and proclaimed himself Fuehrer of the NSDAP. In 1933, it gained power in Germany and soon WW2 began.
