It is divided into three parts-Punjab plain,ganga plain and Brahmaputra plain.
This plain is about 2400 km long and it's wide varies in between 150 and 320 km.It covers an area of more than 7 lakh square km and is densely populated.Due to the gentle slop, the velocity of the river decreases which results in the deposition of slit on its bed.It leads to the formation of reverie island
