Answer:

45 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the present age of man.

20 years ago his age is x – 20.

y be the present age of son.

Now,

x - 20= 5(y -20)

x - 20= 5y -100

x - 5y = -80....... equation 1

again, age of son after 16 years is 41 years.

y + 16= 41

y = 41 -16= 25 years

putting in equation 1 we get

x - 5(25)= -80

x- 125 = -80

x = 125- 80

x= 45 years

present age of man is 45 years and son is 25 years.

Answer:

25

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the current age of son be x and that of the man be y

20 years ago

son's age = x-20

man's age = y-20 = 5(x-20)

y-20 = 5x-100

y-5x = -100+20

y-5x = -80........(i)

16 years later

son's age = x+16

man's age = y+16 = 41

y+16 = 41

y = 41-16

y = 25........(ii)

From (i) and (ii)

25-5x = -80

-5x= -80-25

-5x = -105

5x = 105

x = 105/5

x = 21

hence the age of the man is 25 years and that of his son is 21 years
