How oxygen in air can initiate polymerisation?

Oxygen is NOT an inhibitor but a retarder - polymerisation will occur just at a lower rate - oxygen will react to form peroxy radicals which can initiate polymerisation. Perhaps more importantly, as noted is to make sure you remove inhibitor from the monomer
