If it's painful and you honestly regret about that mistake then

your part is fine

If it's a true relationship you have in between , then you don't have to worry about that. Your part is to apologise sincerely if you feel that you have done a great mistake to that person

After that just be satisfied that you did your part

Past is past ,learn your lessons from it and leave it behind

don't bother about it too much
