how pasteurisation help in food preservation?

Pasteurization is the hot and cold treatment of milk in which milk is subjected it make bacteria free . The milk is heated up to 62°C for half an hour for at 70°C for 15 sec and then coOLED suddenly . The bacteria cannot survive in the sudden change in temperature and gets killed.
