Potassium is a very reactive metal. It is one of the alkali metals. When it comes in contact with the oxygen in air it overgoes spontaneous combustion. It also reacts explosively with water. That is why it is stored in kerosene as there is no reaction between Potassium and Kerosene.

Bcoz it is very reactive mental if it is taken out from kerosene then it will combine with oxygen and may result in spontaneous combustion
