The potential difference of point B w.t.r. point A is defined as

the work per unit charge done in moving a positive test charge from

point A to point B.

The force on charge Q is F = E * Q

Work is F * d where F acts thru the distance d

So W = E * Q * d

then W / Q = F * d in Joules / Coulomb

So V (potential difference) = W / Q = F * d
