The parasympathetic nervous system, via the vagus nerve, and the hormone gastrin stimulate the parietal cell toproduce gastric acid, both directly acting on parietal cells and indirectly, through the stimulation of the secretion of the hormone histamine from enterochromaffine-like cells (ECL).
