Its is beneficial as
Spores only germinates when they are in contact with moist soil and the environment around it is favourable.
So if the environmental conditions are not favourable then the outermost layer of the shell protects it.

2. The spores are light in weight and thus they keep floating in the air. This helps in the dispersal of the organism.

3. The spores are covered with thick layer which enable them to survive in the unfavourable conditions.
