Respiration involves the breaking of glucose to release energy, it is a catabolic process.

Photosynthesis involves the production of glucose by trapping the sun's energy, it is an anabolic process.

Photosynthesis consumes water and carbon dioxide, while respiration releases water and carbon dioxide as byproducts.

Photosynthesis and respiration are related, as in both mechnaism, the plants gain energy.
In photosynthesis, plants gain energy from solar readiation whereas, in respiration, they breakdown glucose molecule to get energy in the form of ATP molecules.
They are releted also because they are dependent on each other. The product of photosynthesis, i.e., glucose ( food ) is utilised in respiration to yield energy (ATP). Which doing so, it release many other simple molecules

which are utilised in photosynthesis to produce more sugars
