Salts are formed as a result of neutralization reaction.
The reaction between an acid and a base is called neutralization reaction and such reactions always gives salt and water.
For example, if we react Hydrochloric acid with potassium hydroxide(which is a base), we will have potassium chloride which is a salt and a water molecule.
