Science is a discipline that is used for the benefit of mankind. Consequently, scientific development cannot be detached from social needs and perception.
Classic examples of this are cleaning of the Ganges and introducing cleanliness in our daily lives through the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The holy river is being cleaned by using scientific processes. It is thus being turned into a clean water body as is perceived by the Hindu society. Similarly, while we are being educated through the mass media to keep our environment clean as a matter of a changed social habit, newer and improvement scientific methods are being introduced in the treatment of waste, including recycling into plant feeds and manure.
