human cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes .out of 23 pairs (46 chromosomes)only one pair is responsible for influencing the sex of a child .a female has two X chromosomes as the sex chromosome where as the male has an x and y chromosomes.
if sperm caring an X chromosome fertilises and ovum it forms a zygote with two X chromosomes such a zygote would develop into a female .if sperm carrying a x chromosome fertilises an ovum it forms a zygote with an x and y chromosomes resulting in a male child .hence none of the parents is responsible for determining the sex of their baby
