Continuous cropping over same piece of land makes the minerals present in the soil to get exhausted, as they get absorbed by the crops. This makes the soil infertile. That is why Fallowing i.e. the process of leaving a field for 1 to 2 months without any crop should be done, which helps the soil to retain its nutrients.

Answer:
Since, crops take up nutrients from soil. Continues growing of crops makes the soil poorer in certain nutrients. The soil becomes infertile. It does not get enough time to replenish the soil.
