The higher µ is, the more force resists motion if two objects are sliding past each other. There are two forms of friction, kinetic andstatic. If you try to slide two objects pasteach other, a small amount of force will result in no motion. The force of friction is greater than the applied force.

Static frictions acts when a body is at rest, due to interlocking of the surfaces. Sliding friction acts when the body is in motion. As the time given for interlocking in sliding friction is less than that in static friction, the static friction is always greater than sliding friction.
