Land reclamation in Holland took couples of stages before reaching the climax .

At first the sea wall was increased , at ever step a dyke was created to drain the water off the sea,by doing this low lying tracks of land called polders were established with dykes for their drainage. After this the remnant of this process was  very soft clay that could not be used for agricultural purposes thus needed to be improved. The place was filled with sand to help consolidate the soil particles hence forming  vast agricultural land .

Holland has land reclamation which takes several states before reaching the final state.

Initially, the wall of sea was increased at each step the dyke was developed for draining the water completely off the sea by performing the low lying tracks of land known as polders.

The remnant was very soft clay which is not used for the agricultural purposes. This area is filled with the sand to aid in consolidating some soil particles therefore forming wide agricultural land.
